My traditional class moved online! What do I do now?

Helpful tips for transitioning to online courses.

Southwest Mississippi Community College Administrative offices will be closed March 30th - April 3rd

. All non-essential personnel have been encouraged to work from home. 
Academic Classes will continue - as they are currently all meeting online. 
The Administration of SMCC will reassess the situation late next week to determine office hours moving forward.

Residence Hall to Close

Based upon recommendations from health officials, the college has decided to close all residence halls for the remainder of the semester. Dorm students need to follow instructions from the Office of Campus Housing and plan to complete the check-out and move-out process. Dorm students will be contacted by Campus Housing for specifics regarding the move-out schedule.


Administrative Offices Hours

Beginning March 23, Administrative Offices will be open Monday through Thursday, 8:00-12:00.



Southwest Mississippi Community College continues to monitor information associated with the coronavirus. After reviewing information shared by the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and higher education colleagues from across the state, SMCC has made decisions in an effort to be proactive in reducing the transmission of the virus on campus and to the community we serve.


  • Our college will transition from in-class instruction to on-line instruction for the remainder of the Spring semester.  Course delivery will consist of using such tools as Canvas, Zoom, current electronic books, and other available technology. Labs may also be conducted on-line, however, in some cases small groups of less than ten may be allowed to meet to complete lab assignments. Faculty members have already begun preparing for this transition. Faculty will report to campus Thursday, March 19 for further preparation.
  • Beginning March 23, students should log in to Canvas where information and assignments will be available from the instructor.

  • Students who need assistance or who may be experiencing problems with Canvas or other technology (class not showing up, cannot submit an assignment, etc.) may contact Dr. Kim Henning,, or Jeremey Lea,  If you have difficulty contacting your instructor, contact Alicia Shows, .

All campus meetings and events of greater than 10 people have been cancelled including the all athletic competition and practice, the Spring Stage Band Show, Sunday Buffet, Redline Auditions, and Spring Commencement. Students who complete degree requirements will be mailed their diplomas and will be deemed official graduates of SMCC.
