The basic core described below is designed to serve both students whose formal education ends at the community college level and those whose training will later become highly specialized.

 

Requirements for Graduation with an Associate of Arts Degree.

 

A student may meet the requirements for graduation with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree by completing sixty-four semester hours which must include the basic core listed below or an approved program of study:

 

BASIC CORE

ENG 1113 — 1123 6
MAT 1313, 1323, or 1613 3
*Laboratory Science 8
**Humanities/Fine Arts 6
***Social/Behavioral Science 3

 

* Laboratory Science may be selected from biology, chemistry, physics, or physical science.

 

** Humanities/fine arts may be selected from American history, British literature, French, German, Spanish, oral communications, western civilization, music appreciation, art appreciation, philosophy.

 

*** Social/behavioral science may be selected from economics, political science, psychology, sociology.

 

A maximum of four semester hours of activity courses may apply toward an AA degree. These include band, voice, and piano for non-music majors, chorus, baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, softball, and physical education courses.
