The Melville Millionaires were declared co-champs of the Western Major Baseball League in Canada (along with the Okotoks Dawgs) Monday after the championship series was cancelled due to weather difficulties. The series was tied at one game apiece and had had two straight rainouts.
Pitching for Melville this summer was former Southwest standout Coty Saranthus, a Terry native and Delta State signee.
In six post-season appearances, Saranthus compiled a 1-0 record with 3 saves. In 10.2 innings, he allowed four hits while surrendering no runs or walks and striking out 18.
He was named Pitcher of the Year for his performance during the regular season in which he was 6-1 with three saves. He struck out 62 batters in 43.2 innings while walking only 13 and allowing only three runs (two earned). |
