Regular Admission
An applicant must submit the following to the Office of Admissions, 1156 College Drive, Summit, MS 39666:
- Application for Admission (PDF)
- A final official transcript of high school work (regular or standard diploma only) or GED scores which indicates date of graduation. A graduate of a high-school program that is not regionally accredited must submit a portfolio of documents showing readiness for college level class work; ACT scores are highly recommended. A transfer student must submit an official transcript from each college attended.
- ACT scores are required for specific programs, but not required for admission into the college. Please check guidelines for specific programs. We recommend the ACT since it is used for placement purposes.
Special Circumstances:
Applicants who do not have a valid high school diploma or the GED equivalency diploma may be admitted to Carpentry, Heating and Air Conditioning, Truck Driving, or Welding if they meet the federal "Ability to Benefit" test requirements. Currently that requirement is Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Level A, Form 7 or 8.
Those students that do require taking the TABE test to enroll into select applicable programs are required to submit an application for admission to the Registrar’s Office in addition to the sufficient TABE scores prior to scheduling courses at Southwest MS Community College.

Dual Enrollment
For a student who wishes to attend college and is still enrolled in high school, it is possible to start his or her college education early. Students are allowed to attend classes on campus; additionally, most local high schools participate in our dual enrollment program by offering courses to the student body at their local high school.
In addition to the regular admission requirements, a letter of recommendation from the high school principal or counselor is required. The student must be in good standing and have a least 14 credit hours or units with a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all high school courses. ACT Scores are required for dual enrollment students. Dual enrollment students are allowed to take a maximum of six semester hours per semester.
For all other admission situations, review the current catalog or call our office at 601.276.2001.
