Cheerleading Program . Scholarships . Eligibility . Tryouts . Additional Information SMCC Cheerleading Program
The SMCC Cheerleading program consists of a co-ed squad of up to 14 members, a manager, and Bear mascot. The squad cheers at all football games and home basketball games. In addition, they host two pep rallies, one to kick off the football season and one during Homecoming Week.
Scholarship Information
Members of the SMCC Cheerleading Squad receive full tuition scholarships (excluding out-of-state fee) up to four semesters. Cheerleaders will only receive scholarships if they fulfill their entire year responsibly as a SMCC Cheerleader. Any unexcused absences render a scholarship reduction of $50 for practices and $ 100 for games. Other financial aid sources may affect the amount of scholarship cheerleaders receive. For example, if the total of all financial aid (academic scholarships, private scholarships, performance scholarships, Pell Grant, MTAG, SEOG, etc.) exceeds $400.00 above the cost of attendance, cheerleading scholarships for full tuition will be reduced.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be a member of the SMCC Cheerleading Squad you must be a full-time student at SMCC and maintain a 2.0 cumulative Grade Point Average based only on work completed at SMCC. Transfer student’s eligibility will be based on their transferring grade point average. Incoming freshmen only need to be accepted to the college.
In addition, each member is required to have personal health insurance. Proof of insurance is required before you will be able to participate in any cheerleading activities, including tryouts, and must be maintained throughout the year.
Cheerleaders may have jobs or extra curricular activities only if they do not conflict with ANY SMCC events. This includes all games, practices, and pep rallies.
