Southwest cheerleaders represent the school spirit of their peers and a sincere pride in SMCC. These spirit leaders motivate the athletes and Bear fans at the football and basketball games. They perform a difficult task of hours of practice, conditioning, pep rallies, game performances, and good study habits while maintaining high averages.  The co-ed squad consists of up to 14 members and a burly bear mascot. Dawn Brumfield sponsors the group.
