A student's total financial aid cannot exceed expenses by more than $700. A student whose expenses are met with federal financial aid can only receive $700 in institutional money. ( This affects all scholarships awarded by the college, not just band scholarships. )

 

Academic Scholarships

 

Only one academic scholarship can be awarded to a student. Qualifications for scholarships are located in the course catalog.

Institutional Scholarships

 

Scholarship applications for institutional scholarships should be submitted to the Dean of Students/Chairman of the Scholarship Committee by May 1 prior to fall enrollment. Applicants must also submit the full Financial Aid Report from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( http://www.fafsa.ed.gov ). The listing of institutional scholarships is located in the course catalog. Performance Scholarships

 

Scholarships are given to a select student body whom is involved in athletics, cheerleading, reflection, chorus, and band. Please contact either a coach, or director of the activity you plan to join or participate in to determine how you may apply for scholarships.

Non-Institutional ‘Outside' Scholarships and Programs

 

Southwest Mississippi Community College acknowledges and congratulates students whom receive outside scholarships (Americorps, WIA, Church established scholarships, Career -parents' job- scholarships, etc.). Outside scholarships must be reported to the financial aid office immediately. If a student receives an outside scholarship, payment should be directed to the Business Office, 1156 College Drive, Summit, MS 39666 to be applied to the student's account.
