Part-Time Law Enforcement Academy

Southwest Mississippi Community College Workforce Development provides continuing education and training for Law Enforcement and Corrections. The following training has been designed to provide demanding and progressive training to part-time and reserve police officers, deputies and arson investigators which will comply with the minimum requirements for part-time officer certification through the Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training (BLEOST). The courses presented will provide training in an innovative adult-education based format. The goal of the training is not only to provide the recruit with the best possible training, but to provide the communities with the best trained part-time and reserve police officers, deputies and arson investigators.

July 14, 2014-December 5, 2014
Mondays & Wednesdays 1700-2200 hours; some classes on Saturdays 0900-1700 hours
255 training hours
Cost: $250.00

Training will include but not be limited to the following: Patrol Operations, Basic Criminal Investigation, Traffic, Basic Law for Law Enforcement, Mechanics for Arrest, Defensive Tactics, CPR/First Aid, Firearms Training and Physical Fitness Training.

Class is limited to twenty (20) recruits. Recruits must be sponsored by a Mississippi law enforcement agency. Registered recruits will report July 12, 2014, at 0900 hours at the Regional Workforce Development Center for mandatory Physical Fitness Exam. Registered recruits must bring their completed MS Peace Officer Standards & Training Part-Time Basic Training Packet (pages 1-8) to proceed to Physical Fitness exam. It is recommended that registered recruits report wearing non-revealing athletic wear.
