GED Test Information

The General Educational Development Test (GED) is a test which upon successful completion merits a high school equivalency diploma. The GED is accepted nationally for admission to most colleges, training program, and the military.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You are required to pre-register to take the GED test. Registration should be completed at least one week prior to the testing date.
  • Picture I.D. is required at registration and at each testing session.
  • Your application must be filled out completely and must have the seal of a Notary Public.
  • After completing the application and if you are 19 years or older, you may take the test on the next date it is offered.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for testing. You must be out of school for three months or your class must have graduated (you must have documentation).
  • Exceptions for applicants age 17: must be enrolled in or have completed a program of instruction provided by an adult education agency. Also, the applicant must be recommended by the agency and must submit the necessary paperwork to the examiner during pre-registration.

SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS: 

  • If approved by the GED Examiner in advance, special accommodations for taking the GED Test can be made for GED candidates who lack visual, listening, or physical skills needed to complete the regular GED Test.

TEST SCHEDULE: 

Full Battery GED Tests administered at Southwest MS Community College, 1148 College Drive, Summit, MS 39666 are given the third Monday and Tuesday of every month beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m. Retakes are given on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 8:00 a.m.

GED Tests administered in Walthall County are given the first Monday and Tuesday of every month beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.

GED Tests administered in Wilkinson County at the 1495 Hwy 61 S, Woodville, MS 39669 are given the fourth Monday andTuesday of every month beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. 

GED TEST BATTERY: 

Total time allowed for testing is 7 hours 5 minutes.

Language Arts, Writing 2 hours
Language Arts, Reading 1 hour 5 minutes
Mathematics 1 hour 30 minutes
Science 1 hour 20 minutes
Social Studies 1 hour 10 minutes

An individual may test up to three times per year on all or parts of the test as soon as a score report is received.

COST:

Initial GED Testing fee is $75.00 CASH. A receipt is required for testing.

PERSONAL CHECKS AND CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED. Each subject retest costs $15.00.

  • The minimum passing score requirements for the GED test will be a minimum standard score of 410 on each test AND an average of 450 on the five tests in the battery (a total of 2250 points).
  • You will receive your test results from Southwest MS Community Colleges in approximately two to three weeks.
