Summer Term I Day Courses begin as scheduled on June...
Academic Counseling and RecruitingDear Class of 2012, Now that you are about to graduate from high school, I would like to tell you about the Incoming Freshmen Scheduling Program at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Prior to your first semester of enrollment, you will be advised by the SMCC counseling/advisement staff in your chosen field of study as to what classes you need. The counselor/advisor will create your first class schedule. During this meeting, you will be assigned an advisor who will assist you with scheduling for following semesters. Throughout the months of June and July, the counseling/advisement staff is available by appointment, Monday-Thursday, to assist you with class scheduling. The first morning appointments will be scheduled for 8:30 A.M. and the last afternoon appointments will be scheduled for 3:30 P.M. To reserve a scheduling appointment you will need your SMCC student ID number. Your SMCC student ID number will be assigned when your Application for Admission is processed by the Registrar’s Office. The Application for Admission is available on-line at www.smcc.edu. You must be a high school graduate or have passed the GED, and the Registrar's Office must have an OFFICIAL transcript on file indicating the date of high school graduation or completion of the GED, in addition to a completed application. There is no registration fee. After receiving your SMCC student ID number, you should call the appropriate office to schedule an advisement appointment. Academic and Pre-Associate Degree Nursing majors should call (601) 276-2005. Career-Technical majors should call (601) 276-3722 or (601) 276-2013.
The administrative offices, in the Hughey Building, will be open all summer to answer questions concerning financial aid, scholarships, housing admission and fee payment. Your account balances (fees) must be paid at the Business Office to complete registration. Fees must be paid by Tuesday, August 7, 2012 or your schedule will be deleted. Fall semester day and evening classes begin Friday, August 10, 2012. Fall semester online classes begin Monday, August 20, 2012. I encourage you to make a scheduling appointment as soon as possible. Remember your application for admission and your final transcript must be on file to schedule classes. If you have any questions, please call me at 601-276-3844. Sincerely, Pat Young
