ABE/GED Enrollment

SMCC offers both day and night ABE-GED prep classes!

  1. SMCC enrolls new learners the third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a holiday or special schedule).
  2. An enrollee must be at least 17 yrs old on or before Sept. 1st of the school year and cannot be enrolled in any public private or home school setting.
  3. A letter will be mailed notifying those who have pre-registered of the exact dates and times in which the onsite registration, orientation, and assessments will be held.
  4. Day one - a data packet will be completed on each enrollee, an orientation session will be held and a Locator Assessment will be administered in order to determine a level of comfort- this will assist our program with administering an assessment which is neither too easy nor too hard.
  5. Day two - the Test of Adult Basic Education (the TABE) will be administered to determine if there are weaknesses in the areas of Reading, Math and Language - provided all subjects are needed.
  6. A study plan will be setup to strengthen those areas determined to be weak. A post test will be administered to check readiness for the Official Practice Test (OPT).
  7. The OPT will give us an idea of how you might score on the official GED test. If 450 or higher is scored, we recommend paying the fee to take the test otherwise we might suggest additional preparation.
